Brynn kissed Mollie on the top of her head and assured her that she would return shortly. Well, at least by morning. Her dog was used to sleeping in a separate room from her. This shouldn’t be any different. Except that she was feeling guilty for leaving her. Maybe she was just feeling guilty. And confused. And insecure. And unsure.

No. She was sure. She definitely wanted this. Okay, maybe she wasn’t sure. She wasn’t sure of anything right now. All she knew was that she was going to him, and that they would take it slowly. He would go at her pace. And she would let things happen in their own time. And if it did happen tonight, she would be glad of it. Because there was no way she could deny that she wanted him. Desperately. More than she’d ever wanted a man before. He did things to her that no man had ever done. He made her feel things she’d never felt, and sometimes it was when he wasn’t even touching her.

She glanced in the mirror one last time. Her hair was glistening and she had put on just a dab of her Chanel cologne. “Be good,” she whispered to Mollie. “I love you.”

Mollie raised her head, then rested it back on her paws and closed her eyes. Romping with the hound dogs throughout the day must have tired her out.

“Wish me luck,” Brynn whispered, realizing just how nervous she was. Her desire had been overriding the other fear she had. It had been a long time since she had made love to a man. A very long time. She thought back to her last affair. Tim. Over two years ago. She’d gone out a couple times since, but nothing serious. Nothing that had turned into more than a kiss.

“You can do this.” She opened the door and stepped into the hallway, closing it softly behind her. “And if you can’t, he will understand.”

Slowly she walked down the hall and around the corner, not stopping until she reached his door. She tapped softly and waited.

Kieran set his book beside his reading lamp and stood up. She was here. She had come to him. He had known she would,
